Requirements

1. You will need a Windows PC or IBM compatible computer often referred to as Windows.
For Macintosh see Mac section.
2. A hard drive with about 6 MB. of space for each package of your new graphics.
3. A 3.5 Disk Drive that can read 1.44MB diskettes.
4.You will also need a program that accepts PCX (the PC Paintbrush graphic file format) or a program that accepts BMP (the Windows Bitmap graphic file format). The graphics are the same in both graphic formats. Macintosh program that accepts graphics in the PICT format and they all do. please see Mac section.

What are  BMP and PCX graphic formats and why use them?

To make these graphics compatible with the most possible programs. We have included both the PCX and BMP formats and both are available for use by all your programs.   The graphics in this package are bitmap graphics which means that they are made up of many dots called pixels. PCX is the (PC Paintbrush format) It has long been one of the major graphic formats used by most programs. BMP is the (Windows Paint format) This is fast becoming the Windows standard graphic format, used in making Windows Wallpaper and for all Windows programs.

Your program will generally pick the format it wants to use.  If you see both files available it means the program can use them.  The graphics are the same in both formats.  You can see both sets of files if you choose "All Files" from the "list files of type" box in most programs.

Installation:

These graphic files are compressed to allow them to fit on the disk. This does not affect the quality of the artwork, but the graphics must be decompressed to your hard drive before you can use them. All of the graphics will install into one directory on your hard drive at C:\Western1, or C:\Holiday, or C:\ Events, or C:\English for easy access for all of your programs. By default most programs will pick the format that they prefer.

Windows 95/98 or higher Installation Instructions.

2. Select the [Start] button in the lower left corner select [Run]
3. Select [A:\] select [Browse] select [A:\Install.bat] select [OK]

If you want the graphics installed under another program you can use the Windows File Manager to drag and drop the graphic directories under the programs that you want them under for easy use.

In some cases the [ALT] key might be needed to change a + to - when moving a group of files to a different drive

Importing Graphics with Print Shop Deluxe

Your Print Shop Deluxe manual has instructions for importing graphics. There are several versions of Print Shop Deluxe and each version is different, so you really need to consult your Print Shop Deluxe manual, for your version of the Print Shop Deluxe. Look for the section called IMPORTED GRAPHICS in your Print Shop Deluxe manual.

1. Your first selection is probably [ OBJECT ] or [ADD NEW ELEMENTS ] or [ADD]
2. Then you might select [BMP] [Windows Bitmap] or [PCX] or [PC Paintbrush], depending on your version of Print Shop Deluxe.
3. In some versions you will need to click or double click on a BMP or PCX icon.
4. Now go find your files they should be in the Western1 or Events or Holiday or English directory unless you moved them.
5. You can move back and forth from graphics to sub directories to other graphics and back to the sub directories by clicking on the [ . . ] or [ \ ] depending on your version of Print Shop Deluxe.
6. If you have a DOS version of Print Shop Deluxe and you did not find any reference to importing PCX graphics which should have come up between New Print Shop Graphics and Exit. You may have the Print Shop Deluxe DOS version 1.0. In that case you will need to call Broderbund 1-800-521-6263 for an upgrade in order to import graphics.
7. Print Shop Deluxe can be a little tricky at first, just remember the [ . . ] or [ \ ] are magic, they take you back toward the trunk of the tree.

Note: Print Shop Deluxe does not embed the graphics into it’s project files like some programs do. Print Shop Deluxe needs to go find the graphic files each time you open a project file. If you move the graphics after you create a project the project file will open but will not be able to find the graphics. This is why we recommend that you copy the Western1 or Events or Holiday or English directory under Print Shop Deluxe for easy access by that program. Read Drag and Drop files with Windows on page 4 if you need to do this.
